Event: The  Dr Gerald Leatherman Award

Date: 23rd October 2015

Venue: NEC Birmingham

The Dr Leatherman award is held in the highest regard by the profession. It is the only award nominated and agreed upon by ones peers. It reflects true dedication, professionalism and determination for the greater good of all the profession.

This prestigious award can be given to an individual, who has shown consistent support of the profession or to the BSDHT. The Award is in the form of a lapel pin bearing the words: 'Dr Leatherman Award' and a certificate to commemorate the date that the presentation was made.

As Juliette walked to receive her award the entire room was upstanding, it was a fantastic moment for the profession.

Event: Nutritional Influences in Periodontal     Disease Study Day

Date: Saturday 23rd April 2016

Venue: Eastman Dental Hospital

The Eastman Dental Institute is recognised internationally as one of the leading centres of research and postgraduate education in the field of oral health care. The Institute is the largest dental school in the UK dedicated solely to postgraduate education. It delivers among the widest range of postgraduate programmes of any dental school worldwide.

Juliette will be providing a full day workshop for the dental team focusing on nutritional influences in chronic inflammation with particular reference to periodontal disease.

Event: Implant Maintenance Hands-On

Date:Saturday 14th May 2016

Venue: Optident Development Centre Ilkley, W Yorks.

Perio-Nutrition  has teamed up with Biohorizons and Optident to bring you a fantastic hands on Implant Master Class with top class education and two hands on workshops.

Juliette  will focus on the essentials of implant care and maintenance of the surrounding soft tissues and will provide a minimum of 6hours verifiable CPD. Suitable for all Dental Practitioners and Dental Hygienist-Therapists in both general and specialist practice involved in the after care of implant patients.

IFDH 20th International Symposium on  Dental Hygiene

Date: 23rd-25th June 2016

Venue:  Messe Basel, Switzerland

In June 2016, professionals from all over the world with an interest in oral health will be meeting in Basel, Switzerland.


ISDH 2016 is being organised by Swiss Dental Hygienists
under the auspices of the International Federation of Dental
Hygienists (IFDH). The theme of the 2016 Symposium is:
Dental Hygiene –New Challenges.

Juliette has been invited to take part by presenting two papers.

Supported by Straumann Juliette will present the results of an extensive research project carried out during 2015-16 in collaboration with Professor Nicola West, concerning the prevalence rates of peri-implant complications encountered in general practice as reported by Dental Hygienists and Dental Therapists. The results of the research project will help develop a diagnostic and referral tool for use in general dental practice.

Juliette has been invited to present a second papaer looking at the application and use of oral probiotics in the treatment and prevention od periodontal disease. Supported by Biogaia, Juliette will draw upon her experience of using probiotic therapy over the last 6 years.

Juliette has been invited by the SWSW BSDHT Regional Group to provide a lecture on the Maintenance of Dental Implants for the Dental Hygienist. Juliette will discuss the different types of implant placements we are likely to encounter along with complications, disinfection and debridement techniques and maintenance protocols.

Event:BSDHT Oral Health Conference

Date: 18th - 19th November 2016

Venue: Waterfront Hall Conference Centre Belfast


The 2016 Oral Health Conference will take place at the fantastic Waterfront Conference Centre in Belfast with an exciting two day programme of presentations and workshops. There will be  an extensive trade exhibition and opportunities for networking with colleagues.

Juliette had been invited to take part by providing a presentation on Nutritional Manipulation of Chronic Inflammation – New Concepts in Oral-Systemic Disease Associations. This presentation will focus on
some of the new concepts currently under investigation in particular the impact of refined carbohydrates on pro-inflammatory mechanisms that may influence the development of periodontal disease.

 Juliette will also look at the role of the oral microbiome and probiotic therapies as interventions for chronic inflammation, periodontal and systemic diseases.
